UCBackup provides centralized, network based backup and recovery services for computer systems on the UC Berkeley campus. UCBackup supports Windows, Mac OS and many types of UNIX/Linux systems, both desktops and servers.
For a monthly fee based on the amount of data backed up, UCBackup can protect your computer from data loss due to accidental file deletion or corruption, hard drive failure, or system upgrade. IBM's Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) software installed on your system performs both backups and recoveries under your control.
Using a scheduler program, UCBackup recognizes any changes you have made to your files on a daily basis, and performs backups of these files automatically over the campus LAN to one of the TSM servers in the IST Data Center. UCBackup is managed by IST Infrastructure Services, and is fully vendor supported.
Our inSync service offers a more user-friendly interface for desktops and laptops. inSync is currently in a targetted rollout to select customers.
