Micronet Meeting Questions
April 15, 2008
- Database: Can you have multiple databases in one basic MySQL account? If the service goes down during off hours, does someone respond?
Yes you can create multiple databases in one basic MySQL account. MySQL is supported during business hours, Mon to Fri 8-5. If the service goes down during off hours, a dba will respond only during the support hours window. However, the service supports automatic failover. Basic MySQL is not appropriate for restricted data.
- Windows: Do you support Win 64 bit?
Yes on Windows 2008 and we offer it currently.
- UNIX: Do users of system administration services have access to reboot servers?
No. Users can send a trouble ticket.
- DOCS: How do we get the 10% on driveshares?
The discount code is #DS12183
- Is HPCC now available?
A service to manage high-performance Linux-based compute clusters is currently under development in partnership with LBNL. We expect to have it available as a general offering by mid-summer. Clusters will be collocated in the campus Data Center and managed by the LBNL Cluster
Support group. We have one cluster in pilot production, and are in discussions with other researchers who are planning to use the service. If you're interested in learning more about the service, contact the TAM.
- CalNet AD Question: is there a way to restrict access to only students taking certain courses?
No. CalNet AD receives its data from the LDAP directory which does not include this level of student information. On another note, the CalNet team is gathering requirements about identity management roles from campus users for future development. Feedback can be given to them about these needs.
- DOCS consulting question: Can DOCS do their consulting onsite (go to the departments)?
Yes – DOCS does go to the departments as long as the departments have the space for them to work.
- Why should we order Verisign Certificates from Windows (instead of directly from the vendor)?
According to one audience member, it only takes a day and will save $400. Windows group buys these certificates in bulk and resells them at cost. It’s only $180.
