IST purchases SSL certificates in bulk from VeriSign, a leading security provider, at significant cost savings for the campus, and administers the issuance of these certificates. Certificates can be issued quickly. Multiple certificates (for clusters) and multiyear certificates can be issued easily. A list of campus certificates can be produced without having to contact VeriSign. Expiration dates can be tracked to make sure certificates do not expire unexpectedly. Certificates can be reissued as needed in development situations.
IST also offers self-signed certificates. The CalnetPKI SSL certificate offers an integrated public key infrastructure (PKI) that enables the secure exchange of information across the internet, extranets, and intranets.
