Services for Faculty

Wireless Network Service (Airbears)

AirBears provides wireless network service at various campus locations. Connect to the campus network from any computer equipped with a wireless card using IEEE standard 802.11b technology. A CalNet ID is required to use the service. Guest accounts are also available.

Antivirus Software

The UC Berkeley campus's site-licensed and supported anti-virus software for Windows and Macintosh.

bSpace

bSpace is the online collaboration and learning environment supported by Educational Technology Services (ETS). This system provides the campus with a set of tools that support teaching and learning activities, as well as cross-campus collaboration.

CalMail

Campuswide email and webmail service supported by IST.

CalMail Mail List Service

Campus-wide email mail list service supported by IST

CalNet Identity Management Services

Campus Identity management infrastructure offering secure central authentication and directory services.

Campus IT Policy Consulting

Campuswide consultation and assistance with development, interpretation, and enforcement of policies related to the use of campus technology services and resources. A service of the Office of the CIO (OCIO).

Campuswide IT policy and privacy information for technology developers, users and resource administrators.

Communications Consulting

Consulting on data and voice communications services.

Computer Labs

PC and Macintosh computers are available at several locations around campus for general use and class instruction.

Computer Repair and Support, Campus (CCRS)

Official campus hardware warranty support unit for Apple, Dell, and Lenovo computers. CCRS also provides out-of-warranty hardware support for an hourly fee.  Other services provided: data backup/transfer, OS Installation, memory and harddrive installation. 

CCRS has partnered with a service provider to support Toshiba and Sony hardware. 

Formerly called WHSG (Workstation Hardware Support Group).  Now a part of DOCS.

Computer Store

The Scholar's Workstation is an on-campus resource for computer-related hardware, software, peripherals and supply purchases.

DHCP & Dynamic DNS Service

The campus DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service automates the process of configuring devices for operation on the campus wired network by providing dynamic assignment of IP addresses and other network parameters.

The dynamic DNS service works with the campus DHP service so that the hostname assigned to a device using DHCP is updated in real time so that it refers to the dynamic IP address assigned by the DHCP server to the device.

Ergonomics@Work

Promotes ergonomics in campus work environments through workshops, consultation and coordination of the campus network of departmental computer workstation evaluators. A service of University Health Services.

IT Communications

The Communications group in the OCIO Technology Program Office supports the IST and Technology at Berkeley websites. It also produces UC Berkeley iNews and the Berkeley Computing and Communications newsletter, IT news for and about the campus. In addition the Communications group provides general communications services on behalf of IST and the Office of the CIO.

Museum Informatics Project

MIP is a collaborative effort at the University of California, Berkeley to coordinate the application of information technology in museums and other organized, nonbook collections.

Security Host Vulnerability Assessment

Risk assessment for network-connected hosts.

Security Incident Response

IST's System and Network Security office notifies users or departmental security contacts of systems at risk or that have been compromised; assists law enforcement agencies with security requests while protecting privacy; and enforces campus minimum standards where necessary.

Detection of hosts that have been compromised.

Computer and network security information and resources for the campus.

Security Training and Education

Training opportunities and educational resources on computer and network security.

Software Central

Software downloads for UC Berkeley faculty, staff, and students, including email client software, other Internet applications, security applications such as firewall and antivirus, and other utilities.

Technical Account Management

TAM serves as the single point of contact for campus customers seeking IST services. TAM will manage customer relations and coordinate engagements between IST campus departments. See Technical Account Management on this website.

Telephone Service

To Order phone sets, new phone lines, add phone lines or request phones moved or a change in service go to the IST Shopping Cart.

UCBackup

The UCBackup service provides centralized workstation backup support for the UC Berkeley campus over the campus network. This service is available for Windows, Mac OS, and many Unix workstations.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Service

Allows CalNet ID–authenticated users to connect to the UC Berkeley network from outside of campus, as if they were on campus, and encrypts the information sent to the network.

Voice Mail (UniBears)

Voice mail and unified communications (email, fax) services for the campus.

webcast.berkeley

UC Berkeley video and podcasts for courses and events. Service offered by Educational Technology Services in partnership with IST.

Windows Desktop Security Software
