A Second Donation of Servers To UCB Are Available To Campus Departments Beginning July 6, 2009
Broadcom Corporation has donated approximately 300 three to four year old Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron compute servers to UCB. These servers are rack-mountable "2U" devices with no operating system, displays or other peripherals, and have minimal disk drives.
The donated servers are now available to campus departments upon
request. Campus departments may request these servers for any of the
following designated purposes:
· For use with CalHPC (high performance computing service)*
· For colocation in the Data Center**
· For local use
All orders are processed on a first come, first served basis, and if
the requested type of server is not available, the customer will have
the option to change their request.
*Cal HPC Customers should already be in contact with Technical
Account Management (TAM) if requesting servers for this purpose. More
information about TAM can be found online: http://ist.berkeley.edu/services/tam
**Data Center Colocation customers should refer to http://ist.berkeley.edu/services/is/dc/colo for more information including costs associated with this service.
