Residential Hall Phone Rates

Service Fee
There is a service fee of $40.00 which includes a 7% ($3.33) Administrative Full Cost (AFC) assessment for basic telephone service for residents living in the Residence Halls, International House and Manville. This will reflect as a one-time charge each semester and billed to your Centralized Accounts Receivables System (CARS) account with the description as "Fall Telecom" for August to December or "Spr Telecom" for January to May.

A Note About 800 Numbers
Some 1-800 numbers are NOT toll-free. There are 1-800 lines that are links to 900 numbers, for which callers are billed. Charges for these calls will be equally divided among all residents sharing the phone from which they were placed. The charges will appear on your monthly statement as a "900" collect call.

A Note about Outside Vendors
The University has contracts with specific telecommunication vendors for all phone services for students, faculty and staff on the University campus and in the University dormitories. No outside vendors are permitted to set up any services or calling programs directly to these phone lines or with these customers without first negotiating with the University's Communication and Network Services Department and becoming an approved vendor. The University is funded with public funds and there are strict rules and regulations regarding how this money is to be spent. Students are not allowed to make individual calling plans with outside vendors. No third party billing is allowed and if billing occurs, all residents of the room will be charged for billing in addition to administrative fees, which will be added to their CARS accounts.
