New privacy settings now available in the campus directory

March 28, 2024

Dear Campus Community,

We are pleased to announce the launch of an improved Campus Directory Update tool that allows you to customize privacy settings for individual data fields. These recent enhancements allow you to have better control over who can view your data listed in the campus directory plus offer a more intuitive design.

What has changed?

You now have the option to select how your data is displayed in the directory by using a drop-down menu for each field. Options include:

  • Public (everyone can see this field, this is the default setting);
  • Logged in (only those logged in via CalNet can see this field); or
  • Not visible (no one can see this field).

How can I update my directory listing?

Follow these steps to change how your info is displayed in the directory:

  • Log into mycalnet.berkeley.edu using your CalNet ID.
  • Select “Directory Update” from the menu.
  • Once you are logged in, you will see your name as well as contact information fields.
  • Use the drop-down menu for each field to select how you want that information to be displayed in the directory. Note: students and employees have different options available:
    • Students will have access to view and set display preferences for their names and pronouns.
    • Employees (including student employees) will be able to view and set display preferences for their name and email address as well as set a campus phone number and work address. Please be aware that employee pronouns will not be available until UCPath’s pronouns project is complete in July 2024.
  • Hit the “Save” button to retain your selections.

How do I change my name or pronouns that are displayed in the directory?

Depending on your affiliation with the university, there are different systems you may need to access to update your name or pronouns. Learn more about managing your name and other data
