The Storage and Backup Group (SBG) offers four categories of services for computer systems on the UC Berkeley campus. Different pricing levels are available in each of these service categories, depending on your capacity and performance requirements.
- Storage Area Network (SAN): Server systems located in the IST Data Center can directly access centralized storage in capacities ranging from 35 Gigabytes (GB) to Terabytes (TB), in five different performance tiers. All storage offerings run on enterprise class arrays, with full component redundancy including multi-path SAN connectivity and hardware RAID. When you buy capacity on the IST SAN, you also get onsite vendor support 24x7, so your storage is always online. You can quickly and easily add capacity when required, so you can buy just what you need, when you need it. We also monitor array performance, so you can be sure you are receiving the level of service you expect.
- Network Attached Storage (NAS): Client systems anywhere on the campus LAN can access Network File System (NFS) file services on our clustered NAS servers. The IST Windows group can provide CIFS/SMB file services. All NAS services are supported on our enterprise arrays, so your storage has the same continuous availability and easy expandability as our SAN offerings.
- iSCSI Storage: Systems anywhere on the campus LAN can acquire private volume allocations on our enterprise array storage. As with our SAN offerings, iSCSI storage is highly available and expandable.
- Backup and Archive: Desktop and server systems anywhere on the campus LAN can subscribe to backup services, supported by IBM Tivoli Storage Manager servers in the IST Data Center. Standard services include secure offsite storage of backups to provide long-term disaster recovery capability. Archiving and customized scheduling and retention policies can also be arranged.
