Payroll/Personnel (PPS) and Kronos Timekeeping Systems

The Payroll/ Personnel (PPS) and Kronos Timekeeping Systems team is responsible for the overall reliability and functionality of the Payroll/Personnel System (PPS), which pays 22,000 employees monthly over four cycles, and the Kronos Timekeeping System, which captures daily time records for over 2500 employees. The PPS was developed by the UC Office of the President (UCOP).

The Payroll and Kronos unit technically supports the Kronos Timekeeping System, Effort Reporting, and the Payroll/Personnel System for the campus. The unit works closely with the campus Payroll Office to assure smooth payroll processing for the thousands of employees who work for UC Berkeley.

Support of PPS involves the following activities:

  1. Review of UCOP releases and prioritizing implementation with the Payroll manager, the HRMS (Human Resource Management System) project director, and the HRMS technical manager.
  2. Partnering with VC–Administration on new service initiatives such as PPS Web Inquiry.
  3. The migration of PPS support to UCOP.
  4. Meeting ongoing and ad-hoc requirements for reporting to, and data integration with, corporate systems.

Support of Kronos (an e-Berkeley initiative) and other batch time reporting interfaces involves working with a consortium of campus managers to enhance and extend Kronos functionality and the batch time interface to PPS.
