The Mainframe Unit of IST Application Services
is responsible for both the future direction
and the current, ongoing support of campuswide administrative computing systems
that reside on the IBM mainframe.
These legacy mainframe systems
are the operational underpinnings
for mission-critical enterprise functions at the University.
The Mainframe unit is responsible for:
Replatforming:
The Unit is responsible for
leadership, research, evaluation, planning, and implementation
to move systems and people
from current technology platforms
to modern, sustainable technologies
that are cost-effective, reliable, scalable, secure, flexible,
and Internet-based.
Currently, Kuali-Student
is being investigated
as an opportunity to replace legacy student systems
as part of the Student Systems 2012 Initiative.

Current operations:
The Unit provides applications needs assessment,
planning, design, development, testing, migrating,
documentation, training, enhancement, maintenance,
production support, and customer support.
Supporting mainframe campus developers:
The unit also supports campus developers
who have applications on the mainframe
or need to use mainframe DB2 data.
This includes work in:
CICS, COBOL, PL1, JCL, PAGECENTER, FOCUS, etc.
Mainframe-based systems include:
Campus Accounts Receivable (CARS)
Payroll (and support for Kronos, although its platform is Oracle/Unix)
