IST-ASAG: Mission Statement

IST-ASAG is the architecture group for the IST - Application Services unit. Our mission statement is a "late-stage draft" as of August 2006.

Mission Statement

In order to facilitate the achievement of Quality, Speed, and Flexibility in application and service provision, the Application Services Architecture Group (ASAG) determines standards and best practices in methodology, tools, and technology frameworks for application component and service development within IST. These standards and best practices will be discovered in consultation with an Advisory Board of technology experts drawn from industry and University faculty, and in conjunction with other architecture groups in IST. Proposed standards and practices with impact beyond IST will be developed in consultation with appropriate campus bodies.

ASAG will strive to make architectural decisions, roadmaps, and development environments applicable to practical problems faced by the campus; and accessible and achievable in the organization. Standards and best practices in decentralized IT collaboration across the campus will be promoted via available and appropriate contacts, channels, and forums.

ASAG will prototype implementations in new technologies, and will consult with developer teams in and outside IST to facilitate and assist in adoption of standards and best practices for implementation of reusable software components and services.
